Stoles

The stole is an ancient garment used by all orders of ministry. It is essentially descended from a napkin used by the clergy in the administration of the Lord's Supper. Interestingly, the original item behind the maniple was a napkin used to replace the one that the stole had become. This eventually became the maniple, leaving the minister without a napkin, yet again.
